Personal Rescue Watercraft Program

The Personal Rescue Watercraft (PRWC) Program is a vital program to Destin Fire's water rescue capabilities. PRWCs are available to assist land and water-based crews during response to incidents such as drownings, search and rescue, traumatic injuries, and other types of open water emergencies. We have two permanate locations, 1 ski with 2 operators are strategically stationed at the the jetties during spring break, summer, and fall while Station 19, across from Crab Island, houses 3 PRWCs on lifts to respond year round when not patrolling during the summer. All Destin Fire personnel are trained to the highest USLA PRWC standard to be proficient PRWC operators and certified, skilled rescue swimmers during intense training. The classes are taught in and on the water in Destin. There are multiople PRWC operators and rescue swimmers in service everyday to respond to residents and visitors of Destin and the surrounding areas.
